Do you have a “userinit error” everytime you log onto your computer? Are you being plagued with the error “userinit.exe-application error, the application failed to initialise properly (0xc000142)?

The userinit.exe is a system process in Windows Operating Systems that looks after the startup sequence. If this is not working properly you will find that the taskbar, start mean, or desktop icons are missing. This program manages the graphical interface and hence you will see these problems if the graphical interface is not loading properly.

What causes the userinit error?

A virus infection is the most common cause of this annoying problem, which will affect the program as well as the settings the program needs which reside in the registry.

How can I fix this problem?

Firstly, boot the computer still it gets the to desktop. Then, open the Task Manager, click on “File” menu – “New Task” and run the program “Regedit.” This program allows you to move around the Registry, but I must warn you that this is a very delicate area and you should make sure that you take as much care as possible.

Now go to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right hand area you can see an entry called “Userinit.” The value of this entry will be C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe, You need to correct the value is that it is C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe. To do that click on the Userinit value and choose modify.

Now restart the computer and check to see that the graphics are loading ok. If not, then you will need to go through the same process again, checking to make sure that you did not miss any of the steps.

Is there an easier way?

Yes, there is a much simpler way. As you can tell, the process you need to go through when fixing the error manually is quite tedious and time consuming. And a bit complicated as well. If you do not know your way around the Registry, doing a manual repair can be very stressful. And it is so easy to make a mistake and make things worse. The systems and checks that are in place in the database perform a delicate balancing act that can soon fall apart if things start to go wrong.

The best way is to invest in a high quality Registry Cleaner and in a few minutes it will do all the work for you, fixing this and any other errors that may be hidden in the Registry.

While you could use a free Registry Cleaner to do the same job, there is a possibility that this program may also contain a virus, which could make the problem so much worse. To ensure that the job is done correctly, and to take advantage of the many other features that are available it is best to get a “commercial” Registry Cleaner and save yourself all that worry and hassle. As well, you are enduring that your valuable information that is on the computer is safe, and well protected.
